Andrew McCutchen Cured His Haircut Curse With Taylor Swift Walk-Up Music

Andrew McCutchen had a monster weekend, hitting three home runs in four games and helping the Pirates knock the Mets around en route to a series sweep.

And I think I know why.

McCutchen has added Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” as one of his walk-up songs and, finally empowered with a probably-Katy-Perry-bashing-feminist-ish anthem, his bat has come alive.

I hate, hate, HATED when Cutch cut his signature hair. Those locks earned him one MVP already (should have been two) and in a game where any and everyone has their superstition the Pirates franchise player went ahead and changed his entire look.

I was not a bit surprised to see Cutch with a slash line of .223/.331/.383 while only hitting 4 dingers and driving in 22 through his first 37 games. You cannot go and make that kind of drastic change and assume you wont anger the baseball gods. Andrew seemed to have served his penance and turned a corner since the Buccos returned to PNC last week hitting .375/.464/.833 while hitting 3 home runs in those 6 games alone.

Was his timing back? Was his dugout black magic finally paying off? Did his paystub going public alleviate the pressure of a franchise player? No as it turns out this weekend he debuted his new walk up song, Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood.”

Granted, Pittsburgh ranks as the whitest city in America, but does it really have that much of an effect to have Cutch cut his signature braids and adopt Taylor Swift as his walk up music?

I need my franchise player having way more attitude and way more swag. Bryce Harper isn’t taking anyone’s shit and he’s out there leading the NL in homeruns. Giancarlo Stanton takes on to the face, comes back with a sick facemask, and he’s still mashing and laying out for fly balls in RF. Mike Trout continues to steal headlines by channeling the matrix as he slides into third. All I ask is Cutch bring a little more fire to the batter’s box and come out and win that mental matchup with the pitcher before a ball is even tossed.

And that song? I pegged him more for a “Shake it Off” kind of guy…
