SI.com Mark May will no longer appear on ESPN’s studio show “College Football Final,” reports John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal. The other two analysts on “College Football Final” also will be replaced. Lou Holtz and ESPN parted ways earlier this year, and Rece Davis will fill in for Chris Fowler as the host of College GameDay. Beginning this fall, Adnan Virk will host “College Football Final,” with Danny Kanell and Joey Galloway serving as analysts, Ourand reports. According to Ourand, May, who had been featured on the show since 2005, will become part of another studio show with ESPN’s John Saunders and Mack Brown. May joined ESPN in 2001 following a previous stint with CBS. He played offensive line at Pittsburgh and in the NFL for 13 years and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2005.

*Technically he still works at ESPN but he’s clearly receiving a demotion with less TV face time and subsequently less time to make an ass of himself.

Ahhh ding dong the ding dong is dead.
No more tuning into College Football Final and hearing Mark May get paid to troll the biggest fan bases in the sport and bring shame to his Pitt degree. While he’s going to some other show with John Saunders and Mack Brown, I’m pretty sure that’s the random halftime show that everyone changes the channel for in favor of a different game so it’s a win.
This certainly cushions the blow ESPN dealt in April when they released Lou Holtz. They left us wondering who could go toe to toe with the Troll King but it looks like they fixed it putting the baby in the corner. Real good choices made by ESPN with this new cast. Joey Galloway served his time teamed up with Beth Mowins so he deserves this and when Danny Kannel checked in with SVP and Russeillo it usually made for very entertaining radio.
