With the conclusion of the Women’s World Cup, it became time for every internet troll to step up on their soap box and cry foul that the US Women, who won, earned 18 times less than the US Men, who did not even win the cup.
ESPN: “Not Even World Cup Champs Can Avoid The Pay Gap”
Newsweek: “Inequality Hangs Over US Women’s World Cup
CBS: “Is The US Women’s Soccer Team Getting Short Changed?”
ESPN also threw a cute little graphic out there to support their tears.
Hope Solo joined the conversation with her two cents:
I kindly ask that all you people sit down and shut up.
No matter how much you want to cry about Jane the Plumber making 20% less than Joe the Plummer, the logic is irrelevant here.
Let’s let Joe from ItsJoe.com explain.
As the actual facts indicate, FIFA did demonstrate pay inequality when they gave the women a slice of the pie that was four times the slice the men got!

Simple economics, if fewer people are showing up to games, and fewer people are buying jersey’s, then there is going to be fewer dollars floating around to share.
It would be utterly ridiculous if some Canuck suggested profit sharing with the much more prosperous MLB, NBA, or NFL. Same story here people, the women made less money because YOU weren’t watching it on TV and hyping it up the same way you did for the men last summer.
