It’s that time of the year again. Major League Baseball has released its annual holiday jerseys. While it can work for some teams, the Pirates are playing behind the 8-ball on most as their traditional colors Black & Yellow don’t exactly pair well with Red/White/Blue, Pink, Blue etc.
Lets have a look
The Memorial Day set isn’t terrible. The Pirates have gone camo in the past so they wont look too repug on TV that day.
Now this one I can get into. They added a gold border to the logos and etched stars on each of the hats venting holes. The real value here is a peek at what could become of those 2017 Opening Day uniforms celebrating the defending World Series Champions. The Royal’s most recently continued that trend (below)

The final hat revealed today is the All Star Game hat. A nice John Cena-esque throwback to the Padre’s classic shell I always like when they go all in embracing the All Star Game Host City’s template.
All in all, not terrible. There was no getting out of the standard uni’s with unmatched coloring but the payoff of those Home Run Derby & All Star Game hats might be worth suffering through a day of Black & Yellow…. and Pink.
Side note: Kinda bullshit all those holiday baseball games are away from PNC Park. It would have been nice to spend a three day weekend in the summer enjoying baseball!
