John Cena Will Host This Years ESPY Awards

Great grab by ESPN going after the latest wrestler turned actor who hit the ground running in Trainwreck.  This could be a decent watch on the only day of the year with no other sports but that’s going to rely on Edgy John Cena coming through the curtain and not the campy Super Hero most people are used to on Mondays.

This announcement does however spark the question “is John Cena turning into The Rock?” Going into their first Wrestlemania match Cena ripped The Rock for becoming a movie star. ESPN.com interviewed Cena about his new gig and future with WWE.

“I’m going to be wrestling for as long as I can,” Cena said. “It’s something I’m very passionate about and something that I love.”

But wait. Doesn’t that just sound like some BS PR line, no way he’d burn that bridge with at least a few years left?  au contraire, Cena has an answer to that.

“I’ve worked my entire career to try to broaden the perception of the WWE.”

That… I buy.  It coincides with remarks he gave TMZ last year explaining while he might hang up his boots he wants to stay in the business perhaps at the announcers both or in a back stage role.

Never forget…

Side note: I legit jumped out of my seat and fist pumped when Cena showed up in “Daddy’s Home.” #spoileralert
